Mother's day

What a wonderful day it was! I spent the day with my mother, children, and little sister. We went to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ. It was Channel 10 day and admission was $10 all day! We had such a great time looking at all the exhibits. Phoenix particularly liked the octopus. When we went into the jellyfish exhibit, he said, "Mommy, we are going jellyfishing!" That kid watches too much Spongebob.

After that, we went to Burger King for a quick lunch and some playtime. I haven't been in years and I must say I had a terrific time watching the kids play on the gym equipment.

Then, we went out to dinner. The rest of the family joined us and we just ate and laughed and had a wonderful day. I must say this was the best mother's day to date!

Baking

Since this recession hit, I've been looking for ways to cut corners and become more fiscally conservative. I have discovered a new love of baking and I have made so many things from scratch that I would have normally bought in the store. I never realized how easy it is to make homemade pancakes, cupcakes, cookies, and the like with very few ingrediants. I have also started cooking more from scratch and I am very happy with the results. My waistline isn't though!

Oprah!

Umm, the woman gave me and my whole family free chicken dinners. I didn't have to cook or do dishes on Wednesday night. Thank you Oprah!

I just recently found facebook (okay I have had a page for like a year, but never used it) and I have already reconnected with a ton of good friends I had lost contact with. As a matter of fact, me and a good friend from college went out to a movie and to lunch after we reunited through facebook. I LOVE social networking!

This may be my all time favorite movie. I just can't watch it enough.

Why have I not used these sooner? I am kicking myself.

I actually think I have gotten my grove back. I made a few pages in the last couple of nights and I am happy with the results. It's coming back to me slowly but surely, but so is the urge to SHOP! I have to find some balance in scrapbooking between participating in the hobby and just buying everything I see. If anyone knows how to do it, let me know.

Easter has come and gone and I must say it was a nice one. We had an egg hunt for the kids that was fun for the adults as well as the kids. I video taped it, so I don't have that many still photos. I did manage to get a few of the kids before we went to church.

The other day, Phoenix was very crabby and Shannon (DH) thought letting him wear his jersey would cheer him up. Turns out it worked! That's one reason why kid's need their dads. I never would have thought of that..

I actually scrapped two pages for NSD. Nothing special, but it's a start. I've vowed not to buy another thing (accept adhesive) for the rest of the summer. I have sooo much stuff! It's crazy.

I am the worst blogger in the world, but that's because I haven't had anything interesting to post! I've let my scrapbooking lapse to the point where I don't even know what I'm doing when I pull my stash out anymore. I have to just create something to get my feet wet, even if I don't like it.

In other news, the kids are fine. Growing like weeds and getting into trouble. Shannon and I are planning on taking a Cruise this year to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary in December. I'm excited and looking forward to that.

Other than that, nada. See, I told you my life was boring. I've got some layouts I never posted that I'll probably upload tonight. See you then!

I'm such a bad blogger. I've been so busy lately preparing for the holidays, I just stopped everything else. But, I'm happy to say I have been scrapbooking again and it took a few layouts for me to get my grove back, but I think it's back now. Take a look:

Both I made with the Bad Girls November kit. It's such a great kit! Just my style.

Anyways, in other news my husband and I will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary tomorrow! I'm so happy because that means a night out without the kids. I've been looking forward to it all week. I can't wait to take a picture of us on our anniversary.

I managed to squeak through to the 4th round of the Bad Girls Top Design Competition. I honestly can't believe it. There were so many great layouts this round. It must have been really hard for the judges. But that makes me all the more nervous. It gets harder and harder with each round and since I did not expect to make it through this round, I feel like I'm really out of my league now. It's good though. I like the challenge.

Oh and did I mention I LOVED the September Bad Girls Kit? I used it for round 2 and 3 of the competition and it was perfect! Love it! If you don't sub to this kit club, how are you even scrapbooking? I honestly don't think I would make it without my BG kits.

Bad Girls Top Design Contest

Despite the fact that I am far from an expert at the craft, I decided to enter the ultra competitive Bad Girls Top Design contest. There are 6 rounds, the first of which concluded last Sunday. Here is my entry for the first round. The challenge was to demonstrate layering.

I made it through to the second round and I turned in my entry today. The girl's on the site are really kind. They left me some awesome praise! This assignment was to use patterned papers.

I did the best I could and stayed true to myself so I'm satisfied with the layout. I don't know if it is good enough to advance to round three, but I'll find out tomorrow. Wish me luck.

I *heart* Gymboree. Their clothes just call me. I think I actually like buying gymboree clothes more than scrapbook supplies! Gasp! They just coordinate so beautifully on my little girl and I get the made to match (m2m in gybo talk) bows for her and it's so much fun! What is the point of having a pretty little girl like Shannon if you can't go overboard dressing her up? I mean, honestly? Scrapbooking has taught me to appreciate the little details like stitching and embellishments placed perfectly. Gymbo has it down to an art with crochet flowers and fun shaped buttons. *Swoon* They are having a sale this week and I can't resist picking up a few new pieces for my little angel's wardrobe. I simply can't resist.

I this week I also won a give away from Scrapscene sponsored by Go. Be. Creative. I am so excited to get it, but I have come to the realization that I need more scrap space. I currently only have a closet and every time I want to scrap, I have to dig everything out and put it all back. The closet is overflowing with stuff now! And it is damn near impossible to get everything back in it in an organized way once I'm done. *sigh* We should be moving to a bigger place within a year, hopefully that will mean more scrap space for me.

I'm such a bad blogger! I have been on vacation this week and LOVING the time with my children. I have taken them to Sesame Place twice, on picnics and over to Nana's house. They have been having the time of their lives. Here is a quick video of them in the park:

King of our Hearts

This layout is nearly 2 years overdue. It's of my brother Drew who was murdered on August 5, 2006. He was my best friend. My only sibling. I miss him so much sometimes I can't even breathe. But, I need to scrapbook his pictures. I just need to for closure. I am going to make an entire album and give it to my parents at Christmas. I think it will help them too.

These are some of the pictures I took on the train when we are on our way to Baltimore. There are a LOT! I haven't even gotten to the pictures that I took in the train station, or in the harbor. I love the ones above the most out of all the ones I took. I can't wait to scrap them!

I took my kids to the UniverSoul circus yesterday and they had a BLAST! I took a bunch of pictures, but I don't have them on the computer yet. As soon as I get myself together, I'll be sure to share. We took the train to Baltimore and I got some great shots at the harbor and on the train.

Been doing a bit of scrapping of pictures of me and my son, Phoenix. I love this little guy! He is so photogenic and such a cute model!

I convinced my boss to let me work 4 days a week, so now I have one extra day to spoil my babies with affection and scrapbook when they are asleep! I submitted my layouts to a couple of design teams and I should find out this month if I'm in. Wish me luck!

I can't believe how fast she is growing. She's 8 months old but wearing 12 months clothes already and *this* close to walking. It makes me happy to see her changing, but it also makes me wonder where the time went? During one of my nostalgic moments, I created a couple layout of when she was first born.

This one makes me so happy! Her eyes were so blue when she was first born and her expressions so angelic.

Got this idea from a SB.com friend keeperwill. I just love how she has her fist balled up and the look on her face is just priceless!

In other news, I won the Bad Girls Apron Challenge for the month of March! I still can't believe it! I'm so excited and I can't wait until I get the apron in the mail. I just might cry! LOL! I entered a lot of layouts/projects for the contest and here is the one that I won with:

Happy Easter

Oh, I just enjoy Easter so! I love the getting dressed up and going out to eat. I had a great time getting my kids ready for today. My son really enjoyed wearing his suit, and my daughter looked precious in her first easter dress. She even wore a gold bracelet that is only for special occassions.

We went to church, then out to brunch. It was very nice. The kids got their Easter treats. I think my mother in law is coming with some more. At any rate, I took a lot of pics. My favorite ones all came out blurry (isn't that always the way!), but I will be scrapping them anyway.

That's right! I am the Biggest Loser of the E-Commerce department! LOL! I won $800, but I gave $200 to the girl who came in second.

I spent all of the money already. I took my family out to dinner, bought a bunch of scrapbook stuff, got my kid's Easter stuff and my husband some Blu ray discs and a PS3 video game. I took my mom out to lunch. Oh, I bought a new dress, shirt, and pants. I got a magazine subscription and bought some custom hair bows for my baby girl. $600 sure does go fast!

Anyway, I am so proud of myself! I really accomplished something. Even though I have been eating out of control since I found out I won! LOL! I am giving myself a week off and then it is back to low carb and exercise.

Disappointed

I only lost 2.8 this week (according to my boss's scale). So now my biggest comp is beating me by .4%. I am at 8.6% body fat lost and she is at 9%. I feel like I am going to be sick. I really, really want to win this! Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do? This is the last week of the competition and I have been following a low carb diet and exercising at least 30 minutes every day. What can I do to close that .4% gap? *sigh*

Just a quick little layout of my daughter. I just love this picture and how she is peeking out from behind the covers. I haven't had a lot of time to scrapbook for some reason lately. I was happy to have had a moment to put something down.

Another "little something" is that I won a $10 shopping spree at SB.com. I was so excited! I never won a contest on a website before. I got my winnings:

In other news, I am terribly anxious about the biggest loser competition in my department. I really don't see my biggest threat eating that often and I'm worried. I REALLY want to win that money. I mean, I've already got some serious scrappy plans for that money! But, I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much. If it is for me, it will be. (That's what I keep telling myself anyway). I started exercising as much as I can and I am eating plenty of veggies and drinking 100+ oz of water a day so I don't think there is much more I can do. We'll have to wait and see what the scale says.

Genes are tricky things!

No one could have ever told me that I would ever have a daughter who looks like this:

She's beautiful, I know, but look at me and my husband:

When the nurse first handed her to me, all I could think was "What the #*&%!" I never could have imagined I would ever have a daughter with light skin and blue eyes. Why would I? I am a Black woman married to a Black man. I would have expected my daughter to look like a mix between us. But she doesn't. People ask me constantly is she "mixed". They want to know when I'm out with her if my husband is a white man. Hell, even the nurse at the hospital had to double check and make sure she had given me the right baby. She told me, "Your baby looks white." They also assume my children have different fathers. I want to yell at them and say, "Hey, Black people come in all different shades!" It gets kind of annoying.

But in all honestly, I don't blame people who assuming comments. I mean, prior to having he I would have thought the same thing. But, that just goes to show you genes are tricky things!

I LOST!!!! I lost 6 pounds! That puts me in the lead this week by .3%. I know it's not a lot, but if I keep going the way I'm going I'm going to WIN! I'm so excited. My goal is to loose 10% of my body weight so I will have to loose another 6.4 pounds before the competition is over. That's only 3.2 pounds a week so I can do that. I just have to start exercising. No joke. I really need to put my tapes in the machine and get moving. I really want that money!!!

I'll be sure and let you know next week how much I lost. Hopefully no one else tries to loose a ridiculous amount of weight in the next two weeks. Wish me luck!

The reason I'm here

People always ask why they are here. I never asked that. I never cared. That was before I had my children. I know know why I'm here. I know what I'm living for. I was born to bring them into the world. I am quite proud of that actually. They make me smile every day and bring so much joy into my world. They are the best thing I have ever done.

My first Blog Post

HI! I'm so excited to be here! I've never done this before so I'll just start off by thanking all who read this. It's so wonderful that you wanted a glimpse inside my life! LOL!

Anyways, I'm currently in a Biggest Loser type competition with the ladies in my department. We started after new years and are going for 10 weeks. We have three more weigh ins to go and so far I've lost 13 pounds. I'm in second place for percentage of weight loss (drats!) but I'm feeling confident that I am going to pull through in the end and WIN! What's the prize, you ask? Well, $800!!!! I know!!! Wouldn't that be amazing! I already know what I would by with it. . . more scrapbooking stuff (like I don't already have enough.) Anyway, the weigh in is on Friday so I will post again and let you know my progress. Wish me luck!
